Fort Gratiot Facility Becomes One of Two U.S. Sites Certified for ReCODE Alzheimer’s Reversal Treatment
Fort Gratiot Township, United States – April 22, 2026 / Lakeshore woods senior living /
For the 6.7 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease, the prevailing medical approach has long centered on symptom management and slowing decline. A clinically validated program now arriving in Port Huron County is offering a different path.
Lakeshore Woods Senior Living has announced the May 1, 2026 opening of the Michigan Cognitive Recovery Center (MCRC), one of only two facilities in the United States certified to administer the ReCODE Program – a precision-medicine protocol developed for the reversal of cognitive decline. The Reverse Alzheimer’s program was developed by Dr. Dale Bredesen, neurologist, Chief Science Officer at Apollo Health, and author of The End of Alzheimer’s Program and Ageless Brain. Rather than targeting a single symptom, the protocol identifies and addresses the multiple biological root causes underlying Alzheimer’s disease.
Clinical data supporting the approach is substantial. Two published studies show that 75-84% of participants with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer’s experienced measurable cognitive improvement through the ReCODE Program. A 2025 randomized controlled trial – the first of its kind – found statistically significant improvements in memory, executive function, processing speed, and overall cognition, with an effect size 600% greater than the leading FDA-approved Alzheimer’s drug. Participants also demonstrated improvements in blood pressure, insulin sensitivity, and cholesterol levels.
“This isn’t about false hope,” said Steve Larsen, founder of MCRC and Lakeshore Woods. “It’s about giving families a real chance evidence-based, science-backed, and deeply personal.”
A Program Born from Personal Loss
The story behind MCRC is a local one. Steve Larsen – a Port Huron area business owner, attorney, and founder of Goforth Group – purchased Lakeshore Woods from the Barss family in 2018 and expanded it into a 78-bed senior living community in 2021. He built the MCRC following the loss of his brother, a longtime business partner, who passed away from Alzheimer’s in November 2025. That experience led Larsen to partner with Apollo Health and invest years of effort into developing an Alzheimer’s reversal treatment program that could help others facing the same diagnosis.
“I watched someone I loved disappear piece by piece,” Larsen said. “I knew there had to be a better answer. ReCODE is that answer.”
What Makes ReCODE Different
Traditional Alzheimer’s care focuses on managing symptoms through medication. The ReCODE Protocol, by contrast, identifies and addresses the specific biological contributors to each individual’s cognitive decline – including inflammation, metabolic dysfunction, sleep disruption, toxic exposures, and nutrient deficiencies. Every participant receives a comprehensive health and cognitive assessment, a personalized care plan, and ongoing monitoring. The program integrates therapeutic nutrition (including the KetoFLEX 12/3 brain health diet), cognitive stimulation, movement, detoxification strategies, and stress management.
The MCRC at Lakeshore Woods is the largest 24/7 residential ReCODE facility in the United States, providing around-the-clock clinical support in a community setting.
Free Public Event April 22, 5:00 p.m.
Prior to the May 1 opening, Lakeshore Woods will host a free community education evening on Wednesday, April 22 at 5:00 p.m.: “ReCODE and You: Understanding Alzheimer’s Prevention and Reversal.” The event is open to the public with no registration required and is designed for families, caregivers, and individuals seeking to understand early intervention options and what is now clinically possible.
Steve Larsen and members of the MCRC clinical team will be present to answer questions. Katlyn Symon, Marketing Director at Lakeshore Woods, is available to assist media with access, interviews, and facility previews. Attendees are encouraged to bring family members and anyone concerned about a loved one’s cognitive health.
