MediRoutes Launches Predictive ETAs, So NEMT Schedules Are Built on How Routes Actually Run

Machine learning on high-frequency GPS data gives dispatchers travel times they can trust.

PHOENIX, Oct. 13, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — MediRoutes has launched Predictive ETAs for non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) providers. The feature uses machine learning on GPS trip history to estimate how long each route will take. Dispatchers can build schedules on real trip history, not on a best guess from a map.

Brokers are looking more closely at GPS reporting, and operators are being asked to back up on-time performance with records that hold up. Predictive ETAs put that same GPS record to work, using it to estimate how long the next trip will take.

“A planned route is only as good as the travel times behind it,” said David Reinkensmeyer, CEO of MediRoutes. “We’ve been collecting granular GPS data on NEMT trips for nearly two decades. AI lets us put all of that to work so dispatchers can build a day they can actually deliver on.”

MediRoutes collects GPS data from provider vehicles about every five seconds. Predictive ETAs apply machine learning to that trip history and combine it with live traffic conditions to estimate how long a route is likely to take. The estimates account for factors such as prior travel on the same route, time of day and day of the week, and they update in real time as a trip progresses. MediRoutes has supported more than 100 million NEMT trips since 2008, and accuracy improves as the model draws on more data.

General map apps estimate drive time alone. NEMT trips also include loading and unloading, wheelchair or stretcher securement and waits at the facility door. Predictive ETAs learn all of it from completed trips, so the estimate reflects the full trip, not just the miles.

“A route doesn’t take the same time on a Tuesday morning as it does on a Friday afternoon, and readings every few seconds give the model enough detail to see the difference,” said John Bierman, Chief Technology Officer at MediRoutes. “It learns from how those trips truly went, so the numbers a dispatcher builds the day on reflect how each route really runs.”

Dispatchers use the estimates when building routes and when deciding which broker trips to accept. A travel time grounded in real trip history helps a provider avoid taking on a trip the schedule can’t support, or turning down one it could have covered. The benefit reaches past dispatch, too. Clinics, care facilities and riders waiting on a pickup get ETAs they can plan around.

MediRoutes is integrated with the industry’s largest brokers, including ModivCare, MTM and MAS, as well as more than a dozen regional brokers. Predictive ETAs turn the GPS data behind those integrations from a compliance requirement into a scheduling advantage.

Predictive ETAs are available now in the newest version of MediRoutes’ dispatch software, which is rolling out to customers ahead of its full launch later this month. NEMT providers can request a demo at mediroutes.com/get-a-demo.
